Why we can't have nice things

 I don't understand it. How can people not see this? It is so obvious to me.

 

People on the left and people on the right want the same things. They want a decent job at decent pay. They want to have a decent place to live and raise their kids. They want to feel valued for who they are and what they do, and they want a fair shake. They want to be healthy. They want to have dignity.

 

Someone convince me this is not true. Someone prove to me that the majority of people on the left and the right don't want these same things. That they want something radically different from each other.

 

Someone show me that the 'other side' wants crappy jobs at crappy wages, that they want a shitty place to live and to be devalued and cheated. That 'other side' wants their kids to grow up in poverty, uneducated and to turn into criminals.


I dare you.

 

Because I don't believe that is true.

 

Oh, don't tell me 'but they voted for such and such', because the country sucks right now for most of us on the left and the right and we all are responsible.

 

But blaming each other is not going to fix the situation. And I'm not talking about letting people off the hook for violence upon other people, that's just not acceptable anywhere outside the sports arena.

 

We need to reset. We need to just STFU a minute with the blame, because we are blaming the wrong people.

 

If we all want the same things, why aren't we working together to get them? Why can't we agree that these basic things are what we all want, and then sit down and work out the best way to get there. Why is there this belief that the 'other side' doesn't want us to have these basic things?


Because we are being fed these lies that say 'they' want to take it away from you. Because we have a million distractions of outrage every day, examples of how 'they' want to take it away from you. Because as long as we are at each other's throats, we are not seeing the real cause.

 

There are active campaigns, on both sides, to drive us apart. Dark money funds these campaigns and it all comes from the same place. It comes from the people who benefit, financially, from keeping us regular people at each other's throats.

 

We need to stop fighting each other, join forces and confront the real enemy. The ones who want us all to have crappy jobs at crappy pay, and feel devalued and scared so we won't ask for a raise out of fear. The ones who want our kids to go hungry and uneducated. The ones who cheat us financially, every single day. That's who we need to fight.

 

So we can all have the things we really want.

 

No handouts. Just a fair shake.

Last night I was telling Grace my fears that some of these Governors might feel the need to call out the National Guard to deal with these protesters.  I was heading to my concern that with Trump backing the protesters, this could lead to civil war, but she interrupted me before I got there. I'm paraphrasing here: "Who do the Guard report to?" she said, "Is it Trump?" "No," I said, "They are essentially a state militia. They report to the Governor." "Oh," she said. The Least Uncomfortable Position

Was thinking about plane travel. Long plane travel, when you're stuck in an airplane full of people, perhaps in a middle seat, for like 20+ hours. For me, this is horrendous. The noise, the crowd, the limited space for movement… it is just this side of physical torture. In order to survive that and not have panic attacks, I have to shut down large parts of my brain. I have to find the least uncomfortable position.  Because there is no comfortable position. None.  All positions are uncomfortable. The entire ordeal from walking into the airport to walking out at the destination is one long uncomfortable position.   So I shut down major portions of my consciousness. Develop tunnel vision. Lock away all feelings that aren't physical, and do my best to dampen those as well. That's the least uncomfortable position, soul-wise. And then I work to find the least uncomfortable physical position as well.   I do not think about how much I want to get out of that plane....
