Pandemic! - Part 1 - Review

I have to say that as Pandemics go, Part I was quite a roller-coaster ride.

Started off a bit slow, all the action a little distant, but then it got up close and personal pretty fast. The panic buying scenes were a bit over the top, I mean, would anyone REALLY buy all that TP? And this was only one of the instances I can think of where they stretched reality into the absurd.

Parts of it were so cliched! Totally predictable and such an anti-climax when what you already knew would happen finally happened.  I think that was a problem in editing. Also the camera work left something to be desired. A lot of scenes were, to be frank, amatuerishly shot.

And the cast members' acting abilities were widely varied. Far too many bad actors. I mean, what idiot would cast that foppish loser as a President of the US?  This I again found to be just beyond the acceptably believable.

We also saw some really outstanding, performances, however, most notably in the Science and Medicine roles. They were low-key yet powerful and stirred our hearts when we needed it most.  Far too few of this kind of great actor in this pandemic. Definitely almost all of the political roles weres shoddy performances,  either lackluster or bombastic, and they did not further the plot in any positive way. I guess they were added to provide the drama, although in this Pandemic there was more than enough drama to go around without adding those self-involved characters.

And the directing, well, it just has the feel of something directed by a series of underqualified people, many of whom put forth valiant effort but failed in the end to really pull the thing together coherently. I guess when the second installment in the franchise comes out, and they're promising it soon, we'll see if the directing begins to smooth out.

Gotta hand it to the writers, tho.  The big surprise about 2/3 of the way through? I won't spoil it for those of you who haven't seen it yet. But it comes out of left field and it changes the whole direction of the entire production. Ramps up the excitement and sets the stage for Part II.

So "Pandemic! -  Part I"!  I highly recommend it! See it from the safety of your own home. 👍👍👍👍

I give it 4 thumbs up, because, well, I have no other choice!
